We are working on a new thing, a PostgreSQL migration tool from Oracle databases. We do believe that opensource databases are moving forward and catching up commercial databases like SQL Server or Oracle. See our full post about our take on opensource relational databases.
Redopendb is still under development, but we can share a few details:
- It is based on Ora2Pg
- It will have some intelligence (not Machine Learning, at it is not neede here) on the migration path, as it will understand what is the best strategy for you to do your migration according some analysis on source database, as it querys Oracle parameters and dictionary. We will provide more details later on this
- It will try to follow a simple principle of doing one thing right, but only one.
- Should be possible to do a fast ‘smart’ migration to PostgreSQL
We don’t sell it. It will be part of our services for opensource database migrations.
Finally a screenshot of one of development failed migration 🙂
